" How can we bring shoppers back to the stores while following Covid protocols "
- Anuj , CTO
Context & Product Opportunity
In 2019, retail stood at a crossroads. Smart, phygital ecosystems were emerging, but their adoption was gradual—until Covid-19 reshaped the landscape overnight. The pandemic not only disrupted traditional retail but also created an urgent need for safer, digitally supported store experiences. For many brands, this became a moment to fast-track the smart-store vision.
Collaborating with the INKI founders, I led the effort to redefine the in-store journey for Anecdot. We envisioned and designed an in-store web app—a digital shopping bag—that blended physical browsing with a touchless, intuitive digital layer, bringing shoppers back with confidence while adhering to evolving safety norms.

Reimagining the In-Store Journey
A comparison between the traditional high-touch shopping experience and the new phygital journey powered by a digital shopping cart.
To understand the impact of introducing a digital shopping cart, we mapped the existing in-store journey and the proposed phygital journey. The comparison highlights how a simple scan-based flow reduces touchpoints, removes friction, and gives shoppers more autonomy—while improving operational efficiency for the brand.

An cohesive & coherent design language
The UI design reflects the idea of coffee being a drink to get energy or focus.
